iPad is stuck in recovery mode. iTunes is stuck at verifying iPad restore. The progress bar densest move at all, essentially no progress. I have tried again and same thing happened. I followed the apple support guide on the web but it doesn't help much.

Do these kind of accidents usually only require LCD to be replaced? No cracks on the actual screen.

I tried connecting the new piece. The home button works, but not the touchscreen. If I try to use again the old digitizer, everything works fine.

My question is:

as far as you know, is the new piece even compatible with my Ipad mini 2 (model 1490)? When I bought it, the description said it was for that model too.

Now I'm on iFixit trying to get a replacement, but I don't understand the difference between the front panel assembly and the LCD screen.

Which one do I need?

The picture on my iPad is crystal clear and all pixels work fine. The only problem is that the glass itself is cracked. Do I need to the pricier LCD screen, or will the front panel assembly do just fine?

I have an iPad mini 2 which I bought in need of a new LCD and digitiser. It was for a customer who promptly came back the next day and said that there was no sound on her video recordings. After trying various fixes and workarounds, i discovered that the audio jack output is not working either. It does play sound from the built in speakers though so that is why I missed it the first time.

I reluctantly removed the touch screen and display and I have fitted a new microphone but the problem remains.

I have tried an external microphone via a lightning port to aux/headphone adapter and it still doesn't work.

I have lost count of the hours and cash aI have invested in this thing and it is a frustrating and infuriating mystery. I repair these things and other hand held devices for a living but this has got me beat so far.....

This must have happened to other people and there must be a definitive solution.

I hope so.....

I have just replaced the lcd and digitizer on a ipad mini 2. The lock button has now stopped working. It will turn the device on and wake it up but i cannot lock the device or turn it off. I can hild the home and lock button down together to do a soft reset which hasnt worked. I disconnected the battery first so dont think i have shorted anything. The digitizer came with everything on it so no soldering. I have tried 3 different digitizers. I have taped up the terminals on the back of the digitizer to prevent ghosting and have tried lifting the digitizer slightly but it still wont lock. I have tried assistive touch and that wont lock it. I have tried turning off the ipade case lock and removing the passcode.

I repair these devices daily and am at a loss as to wht i should try next.

Tonight I replaced the front panel of my brothers iPad mini 2, ensuring to disconnect the battery before unplugging the LCD and Front panel, yet upon reassembly, the LCD backlight is no longer working. I am aware that unplugging the LCD with the battery connected often blows the backlight fuse, but I made sure to unplug the battery first. Could any of you advise what could have gone wrong?

Apparently I cut the cable to the left of the tear camera while taking off the display. I can't determine what it connects to. Can you tell me what it goes to and can I buy a part to fix it?

iPad 2 mini was dropped (whilst in a child’s rubber protective bumper case) and although no visible damage on switching on the screen has lines flickering up it rapidly almost like tv intereference. This stops when pressure is applied just above and to the right of the home button, but reoocirs when pressure is released.

Is this a digitiser issue?

Any help appreciated.

I am able to turn off the iPad Mini 2 by holding down the power button.

Context: I just replaced the battery of this Wi-Fi only iPad Mini 2.

Possible Useful Info: This iPad Mini 2 was repaired previously. When I opened it up the LCD Shield was bent and screws meant to hold down the LCD Shield actually went through the the metal LCD Shield.

When I received the iPad the battery was completely swollen and had lifted the front screen aka digitizer and did not turn on.

The owner of this iPad Mini 2 was not 100% sure it was a battery issue although seemed like the likely culprit.

My thanks to the iFixit community for your help.

Update October 26, 2020:

1. I’ve added photos of the motherboard. Both as it was when I installed the battery and then after taking out the motherboard itself.
2. Additionally owner did say that the reboot cycle with the red screen did occur before the iPad died from a bad battery. It had a charge battery signal with the constant reboot, so they thought it was just a battery issue. Obviously it was not.
