Xbox 360: That mysterious rattling noise...

Every Xbox 360 I have ever come into contact with has a very distinct rattling noise . It sounds like a screw or spring is rattling back and forth, but doesn't have any adverse effects on the performance of the console. I have isolated it to something on the logic board, and I am sure that there is nothing "floating" around the inside of the console.

So, does anyone know what could be the source of this most enigmatic rattle?

Xbox 360: Have I ruined my disc drive?

I have repaired my open tray error by messing with the calibration screws inside my disc drive. About 2 months later it started not reading discs again and kept saying open tray. I opened it back up and tried again accept this time i turned the screws both a few full revolutions thinking that i would find where it stops and use that as a start point for calibrating. Open tray persisted and i started reading more online only to find out these screws are very sensitive and shouldnt be over turned. The x box acts the same as before put disc in ... reading.... open tray. So my question is would turning those screws a few full revolutions ruin the drive? Can i still repair this without buying new parts? And is it gonna be !$&# to find out the position for these screws now that i moved them so much... also i did not take a reading so where they started at is unknown. Stupid right? Thanks for any help in advance.

Xbox 360: Installed RRoD repair kit, still getting the three rings... What now?

So, I have an HDMI Xbox 360 that got the three red ring of death which I understood this ifixit kit would repair. I installed it to the very detailed and thorough instructions with no hiccups or deviations! I have experience repairing computers and audio devices (I am an engineer) so I am confident in my abilities with such things. However, to my dismay, the Xbox still boots up with the three RRoD even after using the kit thoroughly. The machine screws on pretty tight, I cleaned the top of the gpu and cpu as well as I could, made sure it was dry, and applied an amount of the white thermal paste to cover the top without getting too liberal. By the way, the light on the power supply is green when it's on, so I know it's not that.

Any suggestions for possible things I could check that messed up on or missed? And if then it still doesn't work, what do you think my options are for this xbox and why is it still RRoDing? is it possible that it's because this kit doesn't repair the 3 RRoD? Is it lost forever since I can't send it back to microsoft without the seal?

Thanks!

Xbox 360: XBOX 360 4 Red Lights

Hi,

My xBox recently showed 4 red rings around the power button and the picture was awful. I have tried a new Component cable and an HDMI cable but it makes no difference. I have flushed the cache holding the sync and power buttons down as I turn the system on with no difference. Can anyone tell me what the problem might be. I have a normal xBox fix kit to do the 3 lights issue, would this fix the 4 red light issue as well?

Thanks

Xbox 360: Eject Button; Mechanical Failure

I would first like to say that this is an excellent website I thank everyone who has contributed to it. Here is my issue...

thanks to the tutorials on this site I was able to disassemble and repair the Xbox 360.....however, after i reassembled the unit the eject button for the CD/DVD ROM does not work... it appears to be a mechanical not an electrical problem. I have taken it apart a couple times and reinstalled the button but it is still working properly. I was wondering if anyone could give me some direction.. I didn't know if this may be a common problem or if I am missing a spring or something... any insight would be appreciated...thank you

2. Using compressed air to clear any dust.

3. replacing the disk-drive itself, but still having it not read any discs.

Xbox 360: Is there any way to reuse the xclamps

I have seen several other guides for xbox mods where the xclamps are put back in-this is before RROD appears-basically they are trying to prevent RROD. so the question is.... do the guides recommend washers and bolts because the xclamp is useless or because they found another way of doing the same job?

I repaired my xbox with an online set of bolts, but have now been given a friends to repair and am wondering if we can get away with just redoing the thermal paste and reapplying the xclamps.
