Steam Deck OLED: Identifying internal display ZIF Connector

Greetings,

I have a Steam Deck OLED which has a damaged surface-mount connector that connects the internal display to the device. I have no idea where to find this part, and Steam Support refused to give me the name of it. I heard from someone else that a repair tech was able to use a connector from a Surface Pro as an equivalent, but it's hard to find info on that too.

Otherwise, I'm guessing I'll have to find an equivalent based on the length, width, height, no. of pins, pitch, etc. on Mouser or something but I'm not sure what this double-decker style of pins is called that is on this flex cable (I usually work with very old electronics so I haven't seen this before), so if anyone knows what the official name for that is it'll give me one more parameter to source a replacement.

Thanks in advance.

An image of the connector can be found through the following link on Ifixit's guide to replacing the OLED screen: https://guide-images.cdn.ifixit.com/igi/...

Steam Deck: Shell/casing screw turns but won’t come out

I’m trying to remove the top right 10mm shell screw, but it just turns and turns (cw & ccw) but it won’t reverse out. I think it might have something to do with the screw over self-tapping the plastic and now there is no sturdy threading to grip.

Does anyone have any tips or advice as to how I can get this screw out? I’ve trying applying upward pressure (as in trying to pull the front and back shells apart near this joint) whilst turning the screw, but nothing.

The screw head/drive is not stripped as I can see it turning.

Steam Deck OLED: Left trackpad occasionally not working

Is anyone experiencing the same issue where the left trackpad becomes unresponsive and can be fixed by turning it off and on again?

I can’t pinpoint the cause because it’s very unpredictable. Sometimes, I can use the trackpad normally, and the next second, it suddenly stops working.

I’ve already tried factory resetting the device, but the problem persists. I’ve also tried updating to the beta version, but that didn’t help either.

Interestingly, the trackpad always worked when I was in BIOS mode, so I’m assuming it’s a software issue.

Steam Deck: Steam Deck Controller ID Lacks Any Letter Code

I have an LCD model Steam Deck with the only modification done being an SSD upgrade inside. My left stick's rubber ring up top has gotten loose so I'm debating ordering a replacement from here, but hit a snag. Upon checking the Steam Deck Controller ID on my deck, I don't have a proper ID that matches what I've seen online; rather, it simply reads '12345678' with no sort of letter code at all. Is there some way to fix this within Steam itself? Is there something on the stick module inside that also marks whether its a Type A or B on the board?

Steam Deck OLED: Works plugged, but turns off the instant unplgged

Hello!

My Steam Deck was submerged in water... I left it alone for 8 months assuming it was completely dead and one day decided to try and boot it up. To my surprise it worked!

Everything works great except it needs to stay plugged in. The second I unplug it the screen goes blank.

I've spoke with steam support whom has asked me to key some information into a cmd prompt in the desktop mode and it shows the battery health is 98% and it is discharging... It also shows the battery as "charging" in the game mode but obviously the battery does not charge.

Just wondering if I am wasting money with a battery replacement or if there would be another issue...

Steam Deck: My left stick "clicks in" when pressing it to the right?

My left stick started doing this a few months back. If I press the left stick to the right enough it's almost like I'm clicking in L3. It's a bit difficult to explain but it feels like something is clicking in. I got in RMA'd and it felt normal again when I got it. But now it's doing it again. I'm wondering if anyone knows what it is, what's causing it, or if it's even something one should be concerned about. I read somewhere that it could potentially be rubbing up against the wire that's for the touchpad and over time it could potentially cut the wire for the touchpad and break it. I don't think I can RMA it again due to my warranty being expired.

Steam Deck: Newbie - Recommendations for broken USB-C Charger on Steam Deck

Hello, all.

Just joined this site today because:
1. my steam deck's charging port stopped charging a month or so ago.
2. if I send it in for repairs, they are obligated to factory reset as soon as they get it to turn on
3. I have several games without cloud storage that I've sunk thousands of hours into.
4. they absolutely will not back-up my data before factory resetting the device. I've asked.

As a result, I've opened up the machine and started poking around to see what I can diagnose (done PC builds before, but mobile devices are... terrifying...)

I noticed in the tear-down video here at iFixit that the SSD itself is pretty easy to get to. I was able to easily remove it and plug it back in.
I was, unfortunately, unable to figure out how to safely remove the motherboard to inspect the USB-C port and its connections.

To retain that game data, what options do I have?
Should I try and go full bore and just start pulling and unscrewing things to get that motherboard out? (I do know how to solder, so I could, potentially, replace it, if I got the replacement parts.)
OR
Should I bite a bullet, buy a cheap Steam Deck elsewhere, and just pop in the SSD? Would the new system just boot up and run? Or would it then come with a slew of other issues?
OR!
Should I buy a placeholder SSD, send it in for repairs, and then replace it again when I receive it back, fixed?
OR!!
Is there a better, less ridiculous way to handle this, such that I keep my SSD in tact AND get the charge port fixed by a professional?

If this seems very... "Goblin-y", I can live with that. I just think it's upsetting that they're obligated to wipe the whole thing.

Thanks ahead of time! :)
