Microwave: Microwave fuse blows when closing door

Panasonic NE-1054C microwave is 3 years old.

Came to me with a blown fuse. Disconnected power, checked HV capacitor was discharged, and began troubleshooting.

- Tested the 3 door switches and power relay connected to PCB. Switches tested correctly with door open and closed, multiple times.

- Checked door latch alignment. Nothing loose or out of alignment.

- Checked for signs of loose connections, wiring issues, burns or signs of overheating. Everything looks good.

- Checked all other major components for possible issues, shorts. Nothing found.

Replaced fuse, button-up cabinet, connect to power, open and close door multiple times, place a cup of water inside cabinet, run for 30 seconds (do this multiple times switching out cups of water) and it works.

Return microwave to owner, owner uses for one evening several times, no issues. Tries to use in morning - dead. Assumption is that last operation of microwave in evening blew fuse without owner noticing.

Pick up microwave, find blown fuse, test switches again. Switches test proper. No visible signs of excessive heat or problems, no components test failed or shorted. Close up microwave, connect to power, run for 30 seconds with cup of water inside, open door, close door, run for 30 seconds again, open door, close door - FUSE BLOWS.

Has to be a door switch - test all switches, again. This time I use an analog meter to see in real time when switch opens and closes. ALL switches work without delay. Power relay contacts are in OPEN position, as they should be.

3 mechanical switches and one electrical relay involved with the door function:

- Primary interlock switch

- Secondary interlock switch

- Monitor switch

- Power relay on main PCB

I am at the point now where I am assuming that the circuit board is intermittently glitching causing the power relay contacts to CLOSE when the door is closing. This would cause a direct short and blow the fuse (I tested this by disconnecting the power, disconnecting the leads form the power relay, putting a jumper across the leads to simulate CLOSED contacts of power relay, and then closing the door with a meter connected between L1 and N - meter goes to 0 ohms/dead short). But I can't prove it under power which is why I am hesitant to just throw parts at it to attempt a fix.

3 switches = $60.79 CDN before tax and shipping

PCB = $128 CDN, out of stock

Parts found here:

https://www.partstown.ca/panasonic/ne-10...

I could risk $60.79 on switches that appear to be working just fine or $128 on a PCB ( if I can actually get one) that I can't guarantee is the source of the problem. No smoking gun and no desire to waste money.

Any suggestions for troubleshooting this issue further? Thank-you

GE Microwave Oven: GE JVM3160DF5WW – Fan starts when closing door

Subject: GE Microwave JVM3160DF5WW – Fan starts when closing door (no cook cycle selected)

Hello all,

I’m working on a GE microwave, model JVM3160DF5WW.

Background:

• I recently replaced both the primary interlock switch (WB24X10047) and the secondary interlock switch (WB24X829) because the unit required slamming the door to start a cook cycle. That issue is now resolved.

New Symptom:

•. Slamming the door (to which we have become habituated) sometimes causes the fan to start when no cook time has been set. Opening and gently closing the door turns off the fan.

The display does not start a countdown; only the fan runs.

Question:

Has anyone seen this specific symptom? Would you recommend testing/replacing the monitor switch?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Ron C.

GE Microwave Oven: Strange behavior after door switch replacement

I have a GE microwave from 2012 (WES1452SS1SS) That developed door switch issues. It would stop mid-cook or not start at all. I used it for years this way until it had a full failure. I opened it up and found the lowest door switch had failed. That switch is for the door open lever on the front. I ordered 3 new Omron switches of the same specs from Newark. They went in fine, and I had reference pics to compare wiring. Now the light and fan com on with the door closed instead of open. I tried running it for a few seconds with the door closed and it blew the fuse? I don't have my multimeter here to check things. What could the problem be? They're simple switches and fit perfectly.

The old switches were Starion SZM-V16 and the Omrons are V-15-2C26-K

GE Microwave Oven: Replacing the control panel on a GE Profile Microwave PEM31SM4SS

I can't find how to remove the control panel from my GE Profile microwave (PEM31SM4SS). All the videos show that there should be a couple of screws to take out to get access to the panel but I've taken off the oven trim accessory, removed the microwave from the cabinet and there is not a screw in sight. I've tried shifting the control panel to the left, right, up, down and it won't budge. Can anyone tell me how to get access to the control panel so I can replace it? Thanks!!!!!

GE Microwave Oven: Door switch configuration - Donga switches marking

Hello, I have a GE Profile Microwave, PEB 9159SJ2SS. Turntable and light continued to run when door open (but obviously not heating - no loud hum). Ran this way for several months. Now unit not heating. I'm buying a new one but for fun pulled the switches out to examine. Three DONGA switches. 2- prong. First question is the labeling on the switches ALL show a wire/conduit COM-NC, but when I test them the top 2 (primary and monitor I think) were NC but the bottom latch (secondary?) was NO. It did not show continuity until I pressed the button. I opened the switches and the internal structure matched my multimeter finding. Also, the terminal on the NO switch (lowest one in the plastic frame) was physically lower on the case of the switch and abeam the NO label, but again the stamped label showed same as the others COM-NC. Is this normal? that the labels don't match the internal setup? and more importantly, when I look at the official parts list/diagram on GE's website, the MIDDLE switch shows different. Everything on YouTube says the middle (monitor) switch is different. Now, I did find some arcing and damage in the top switch - perhaps this switch is SUPPOSED to be NO and it damaged itself so it tests NC and I got confused by the labeling (which perhaps is meaningless). Anybody know how this model is supposed to be configured?? recap, my config now seems, from top to bottom, NC, NC, NO. If the to switch should be NO but it failed to NC, would that cause the turntable to continue rotating with door open? in this case, the fail safe would still work. Thanks SO much in advance for you guru's out there!. Scott

GE Microwave Oven: Magnetron or Diode or both?

Hey folks, I have a GE Profile microwave and it started arcing. I took it apart and pulled the magnatron. It was arcing between the top of the magnatron tube and the shielding on the microwave. I tested the diode and it is bad for sure. My main question is did the magnatron possibly go bad and arc causing the diode to blow, or would the diode going bad cause the magnatron to arc. I suppose my question boils down to do I just replace the diode or are both parts bad. Oh and I tested the resistance on the Magnatron, the schematic calls for .5ohm and it measure .6-.7

Any help is appreciated.

JVM3160RF3SS: No power after 20amp fuse blown and replaced

Hello, second time I've tried to fix our microwave. First time successful... one of the door switches failed and blew the 20a fuse. I was able to replace the door switch and fuse and it worked again for over a year now.

This time, fuse blew again so I took it apart. The three door switches all test okay: clicking correctly and continuity test check out whether normally open or normally closed. Replaced the 20a fuse again, but when plugged back in there's no power to the control panel. Fuse is good and there's continuity across the fuse to the other contact.

The two thermal cut offs directly behind the control panel test ok, but I haven't been able to reach the "Cavity Thermostat Cutout" for testing. The unit shouldn't have reached anywhere near the 230F temperature listed to blow that, but I guess it's still possible this has failed.

Other possibilities? I see a H.V. Trans Fuse listed and it could possibly be a bad Magnetron. These or possibly a new control board?

I'm reaching the limit of my abilities as a non-licensed/weekend hack/cheapskate just trying to keep a microwave running. Time to just spring for a new one and play the "disposable appliance" game?

Thanks for any insight
