KitchenAid Classic Mixer K45SSWH: Why does my KitchenAide Elite mixer not stay off when plugged in?

My KitchenAide Elite stand mixer will not stay off when the dial is at 0. It will stop for only about 1 minute and then go at almost full speed. The only way to keep it off is to keep it unplugged.

As above. The lever does not move so I can’t raise/lower the tilt head.

I took apart my mixer to clean/re-grease. I fouled up and disconnected the spring attached to the speed control lever. Does anyone have a picture of how it should connect? Thanks!!!! Our mixer is probably 30 years old……

I have a 2007 K45SSWH. It was only running at high speeds from Stir on up. So after reading message boards and watching some videos I decided to replace the speed plate, brushes, and the speed governor just to be sure.

Now that I’ve done all that. If I tighten the top two screws all the way down to when it stops and back them out, it goes from being off to about 75-80 RPM instead of 60rpm like everyone suggests.

I tried them at 3/8” like a lot of guides say and it goes even faster.

I am unsure what to try now?

Classic Model # k45ssac It works fine in the lower gears. If I get to 6 too fast, it stops sometimes. If I get to 10 and shift it down to 8, it stops. It turns back on at 4. Sounds fine, speed tested in all gears.
