Asus VivoBook E203MA-TBCL432B: The laptop crashes beyond a point and heats up

I have the 2gb version, upgraded to ssd, and a year back switched from windows 10 to lubuntu linux. The day to day office usage is good

But if we try to run like vs code etc it freezes and I have to restart again. I have opened the laptop for only once for ssd upgrade. And previously I never faced this issue, this is a new development. So my question is will I need to apply new thermal grease, if it needs one. Or this model just has the cpu sandwiched with the solid heatsink?

Asus TUF Laptop: Why is my laptop overheating and battery discharging!

Laptop is almost exclusively used plugged in with the battery only charging to 60% through the battery saver settings. I used to use it all the time to play intense games like Call of Duty, but it started having issues a couple years into it's lifecycle. I have not been able to use it much since. During gaming the computer appears to overheat and shut off. But when I go to turn it back on it says the battery is on 0%. I'm not a computer saavy person, but my first thing was to open it up and clean out the fan (which wasn't that dusty either). My next option would be to replace the battery since it appears to be a cheap fix (under $50). Any other ideas? Thanks ahead of time.
